Yes, I am! I’m already on it. At the time of writing, there are exactly 64 days until Christmas and if you’re anything like me, you’ll leave it until December, then promise yourself (again) that next year will be different.

Sound familiar?

If you’re planning to do a bit of early shopping around Yorkshire, here’s some inspiration for you. Especially if your friends and family appreciate good food, beautiful interiors and thoughtful gifts.

Shop Local to Buy Your Gifts this Christmas

Yorkshire is full of independent stores that make Christmas shopping a joy (as long as you’re not lastminute.com!)  These aren’t your standard high-street shops, they’re the kind of places where you find gifts with story, style and a touch of Yorkshire charm.

Here are 5 of my favourite independent homeware and deli stores in Yorkshire for Christmas shopping inspiration.

A Harrogate icon, Weetons is part luxury deli, part lifestyle destination. Their food hall is quite literally bursting with locally sourced produce, artisan cheeses, wines and chocolates. Perfect for building your own Christmas hampers and I LOVE giving these as gifts. Their Home & Garden section is so impressive, with elegant tableware, throws and festive home accessories.

Top Christmas tip: Pair a bottle of Weetons Prosecco with one of their scented candles or hand-poured diffusers for an easy but elegant gift. You’re welcome!

For interiors lovers, North Home in Leeds is a beautifully curated space full of Scandinavian-inspired design pieces. I love it here and am so grateful it’s in my home town. Expect tactile ceramics, minimalist lighting, and soft, neutral homeware that makes perfect presents for design savvy friends.

Top Christmas tip: Their handmade mugs, trays and linen cushions make gorgeous stocking fillers (or small luxuries to keep for yourself!)

An independent deli that’s been part of York’s community for decades, The Good Food Shop is a go-to for quality Yorkshire produce. From chutneys and jams to artisan biscuits and local cheeses, it’s another great place to build a gourmet Christmas hamper or pick up a few festive treats for home. Their handmade mince pies and festive preserves make excellent teacher or neighbour gifts.

Top Christmas tip: They also cater for parties if you’re looking to outsource the cooking.

Creative, colourful and full of personality, Birds Yard in Sheffield is an indie treasure trove of homeware, art, jewellery, and locally made gifts.

You’ll find unique ceramics, small-batch food and drink, and plenty of characterful items that you won’t see anywhere else.

Sheffield has a great creative scene and this place is super unique. You could get lost in there for hours and it’s also a great place to take arty teens.

Top Christmas tip: Look out for Sheffield-made candles, prints and craft gins. Ideal for thoughtful, locally sourced presents.

If you’ve never been to Malton, put it on your list. It’s North Yorkshire’s self-proclaimed food capital - and for good reason. The town’s packed with independent shops, cafés and producers, from chocolatiers and bakers to butchers, brewers and wine merchants.

You can easily make a day of it.

Right in the middle of all that is Hare & Wilde, a homeware haven that perfectly captures Malton’s mix of warmth and quality. It’s the kind of shop you wander into ‘just for a look’ and come out with a bag full of things you didn’t know you needed (sound familiar?).

Top Christmas tip: Their linen napkins, candles and kitchenware make brilliant gifts or lovely finishing touches for your own festive table.

Finally…

I hope you’re feeling festive already, and maybe even a bit inspired. With any luck, this list will help you make Christmas shopping fun this year (yes, really).
